I was fortunate enough to spend a few days with NBA champion Patty Mills and visit his homeland on Thursday Island in the Torres Strait Islands. It was amazing getting an insight into what it’s like to play ball at the very highest level and experience Torres Strait Island culture first hand. A vibrant culture that Patty reps everywhere he goes. Humble, down to earth, inspiring and always smiling - Patty Mills is a legend !
Stephen Stewart AKA Number Two, a highly respected Ngarla elder, photographed at Yandeyarra community in the Pilbara, WA. Number Two plays a leading role in traditional law in the Pilbara and was part of the original strike in 1946 for better pay and conditions for Aboriginal workers. It was a privilege to meet him and I feel lucky to have seen some of his amazing country. We could all learn a lot from him, his culture and his respect for the earth. I was commissioned to go to the Pilbara for Greening Australia who have a range of inspiring environmental projects running throughout Australia. Here they have partnered with the Yandeyarra community and established a team of rangers that care for culture, country and environment.
